Sandy City, the fourth largest municipality in the State of Utah, is particularly well known in the Salt Lake Valley for the high quality of life enjoyed by its citizens and its vibrant and booming commercial growth. Despite this growth Sandy is a family community where children attend nationally recognized schools and a myriad of cultural and family events dot the community calendar.
With a population of more than 250,000 people within five miles and average income levels above $80,000, Sandy City, fits a wide variety of lifestyles. Whether you’re in the market for an abundance of recreation, quality housing, endless shopping opportunities or a career in an ideal location, Sandy City is well established as a synergistic commercial center with prime locations for future growth. A 2005 estimate placed its population at nearly 250,000, making it the sixth-largest city in Utah.
The city is home to the South Towne Center shopping mall; Jordan Commons, a large entertainment complex, and is the location of the Southtowne Exposition Center, which regularly hosts conventions.
It was also selected in August 2006 as the location of Real Salt Lake's new soccer-specific stadium, the Sandy Stadium, to be finished in 2008. Groundbreaking occurred on August 12, 2006. No official name for the stadium has been announced.
The major residential region of eastern Sandy climbs high on the slopes of the Wasatch Range while the western section lies at the bottom of the valley.
