Riverton Utah Map Riverton City has a unique location in the southwest portion of Salt Lake County. From this excellent location not only is the city part of the Salt Lake metro area but it is also 25 minutes from the Orem/Provo metro area. The Salt Lake City International Airport is 25 minutes north along the Bangerter Highway located to the west of the City. As the center of the Wasatch moves south Riverton location is more attractive than ever.

For most of its history Riverton was an agricultural community, but widespread residential development that began in the late 1960s has largely transformed it into a bedroom community. Riverton shares city borders with South Jordan to the north, Draper to the east, Bluffdale to the south, and Herriman to the west. Riverton is a growing community the supports traditional family values.

The population was 25,011 at the 2000 census. By 2005, its population had been estimated to increase to 32,089. Riverton is one of the fastest-growing cities in the state of Utah, and was ranked by CNN Money Magazine as the 60th best place to live in the U.S. in 2005. Riverton is located at 40°31'14?N, 111°57'19?W (40.520585, -111.955271)GR1.

According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 32.6 km˛ (12.6 mi˛), all land. The city is located in the Southwestern corner of the Salt Lake Valley about twenty miles south and slightly west of Salt Lake City. Because Riverton is strongly integrated with other cities in the valley, many of the benefits and challenges that affect Riverton also affect other cities in the valley. Like most of Utah, Riverton City is a desert and receives an average of 15.76 inches in precipitation each year. Snow can be seen in the winter, while during the summer temperatures occasionally break 100F. These climate conditions impact agriculture in the area. As a result, farmers grow crops that are able to survive in this climate including wheat, alfalfa, tomatoes, and sugar beets. During parts of Riverton's history, livestock such as sheep and cows were raised. As Riverton has grown, it has been transformed from a rural farming town into a suburban city, and businesses, housing, and roads have replaced the farms and cattle ranges. The main high school in Riverton is Riverton High School, which is the largest school in Utah.
